Fr. Martin’s Cup: DLSU gets past Treston

De La Salle University used a strong second quarter to pull away from Treston College, 66-50, in the Seniors Division of the 25th Fr. Martin’s Cup Summer League on Friday at the San Beda Gymnasium in Mendiola, Manila.

After a nip-and-tuck first period, the Green Archers unleashed a 26-8 blast in the succeeding quarter to lead by as much as 20 points to end the first half and never looked back.

It was the third straight win for the Green Archers in Group A of the seniors division.

Big man Amadou Ndiaye led the Taft-based squad with 13 points and he was backstopped by Francis Escandor who tallied 10 points.

Slotman Leo Esguerra scored 18 points in a losing effort for Treston College.

The combination of Aaron Lumapas and Geremie Sanchez proved to be all the difference as St. Patrick eked out a 72-68 victory against San Beda for their maiden victory in Group A of the juniors division.

After being outscored in the opening period, 24-15, the Red Cubs clawed its way back into the ballgame by returning the favor for St. Patrick in the second canto to take the lead at the end of the half, 39-36.

Aaron Lumapas poured in 24 points while Geremie Sanchez chipped in 19 for St. Patrick.

Mauri Fernandez led San Beda with 27 markers.
