Makati came up with huge rallies in the closing moments of the fourth quarter and the overtime period to take down Paranaque, 67-62, in the Metro League U17 Division held at the Metro Asia Court in Pasig on Saturday.
The Junior Skyscrapers had to recover from a sluggish second half as the Green Berets outscored them, 20-7, to overturn what was once a first half domination into a 35-38 deficit.
Paranaque even held a five-point lead, 53-48, with 38 seconds left in regulation.
But Makati went on a 7-0 run to take the lead, 55-53, with six seconds left.
Johanz Arciga salvaged the Berets’ cause as he scored on a buzzer-beater that forced overtime even as they held a 62-61 edge with 1:11 left in the extension.
The Junior Skyscrapers pulled away after ending the game with six unanswered points.
Ryan Celis fired 28 points with 14 rebounds, three assists, and one block for Makati, which moved up to 1-1.
Raul Isidro added 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block.
Hanz Querido made 18 markers, eight boards, two dimes, three blocks, and one steal for Parañaque, which slipped in its season debut.
Arciga got a double-double of 14 caroms and 11 points with one dime and one steal.
