Actor Lito Lapid is set to make a Senate comeback, thanks largely from the help of his fellow Kapampangans.
Based on the certificate of canvass (COC) from Pampanga which was received by the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), the former Pampanga governor remained popular in the province in spite of his hiatus from the Senate as he received the most number of votes there.
Lapid, who plays the popular character Romulo in the hit television series “Ang Probinsyano” (Brothers in Netflix), gained 747,231 votes in Pampanga alone.
He was followed by reelectionist Senator Cynthia Villar at the second spot with 694,102 votes.
Tailing behind Villar was Senator Grace Poe who received 577,263 votes.
As of 7:16 p.m. Friday, the partial and official tally of Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed that Lapid was in seventh overall with 15,778,223 votes.
Villar stood firm on top of the Magic 12 with 23,610,580 votes, and Poe behind her with 20,711,849 votes.
