4.7 magnitude quake hits Davao Occidental

BUTUAN CITY – A 4.7 magnitude earthquake jolted Davao Occidental province Wednesday night but no injury or damage was reported.

In its bulletin,the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor was traced 206 kilometers (km) southeast of Davao Occidental province.

It was also felt in General Santos City and neighboring areas.

The tremor had a depth of 85 km.

No tsunami alert was raised by the state agency.

The provincial disaster risk reduction and management council there reported no damage or injury.

The Philippines lies in the “Pacific Ring of Fire," where tremors, some caused by volcanic activity, are common.
