It will be a special non-working holiday in Malabon City on May 21, Tuesday, as it will mark its 420th founding anniversary, it was announced Wednesday.
Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea signed Proclamation No. 722 on May 14, by authority of President Rodrigo Duterte, declaring the holiday in the city.
Antolin “Lenlen” Oreta III, the city’s newly proclaimed mayor, announced the holiday on his Twitter account yesterday, along with the message “Happy Malabon day, mga #Malabonian!”
The holiday will give Malabon residents “full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” the Proclamation read.
The city was founded by Augustinian Friars on May 21, 1599. It was classified as a highly urbanized city on April 21, 2001, under Republic Act No. 9019, 402 years after its founding.
