After casting her vote, reelectionist Sen. Nancy Binay called on Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioners to probe the delays caused by the malfunctioning vote-counting machines (VCMs).

“As a member of the Oversight Committee, I call on [Chairman Sheriff] Abas, and the other commissioners of Comelec to start collating and investigating why we are still having successive problems with our VCMs,” she said at the San Antonio National High School in Makati City.

“By this time, we should have been experts when it comes to automation, but the problem seems to keep on worsening,” the lady lawmaker added.

She said that the slow process of the automated voting was unacceptable, stressing that automated was adopted in order for it to be fast and convenient to voters
“The slowness of the voting process now is unacceptable. Isn’t the reason why we made it automated is to make it faster and more convenient to our voters?” she asked.

“Other lawmaker also experienced such. It took Sen. Angara about two hours in order for him to cast his vote I’m sure that other people are also experiencing such in various parts of the country,” she added.

She also recalled the bad experience of her father, former vice president Jojo Binay, who tried but failed to feed his ballot into the VCM machine at his polling precinct for eight times.

Also, she said that her colleague, Sen. Grace Poe, had a hard time voting in San Juan City for the VCM at her polling precinct encountered a technical problem.

Binay had to return home as the precinct where her dad was supposed to vote was the same one where she was designated to cast her ballot. She arrived around 8 a.m. Many people were stuck at the holding area as the VCM on the third floor bogged down.

The machine at their precinct was replaced as well as the ballot of her father. The former vice president even went to the PICC in Pasay City just to talk to Comelec officials.
When he returned, the Binay patriarch was given a new ballot as instructed by the Comelec main office.

Nancy voted at around 12 noon, and she was with her brother, former Makati mayor Junjun Binay. #MatalinongBoto2019
