Six unidentified gunmen shot to death a security aide of a vice mayoralty bet in Victoria town in Oriental Mindoro on Saturday morning.

The Mindoro Marinduque Romblon Palawan (Mimaropa) Police Regional Police identified the victim as Benjamin Algeria, the 38-year old personal bodyguard of Marlo Nuarin, a candidate for vice mayor in Victoria. Alegria, a resident of Barangay San Isidro of Victoria town, was shot twice in the body.

“We can categorize this is an election-related incident,  considering na ang  namatay na tao ay bodyguard ng isang kandidato (considering that the person who was killed was a bodyguard of a candidate),”  said Lt. Col. Socrates Faltado, information officer of the Mimaropa Police Regional Police, in a phone interview.

He said the investigation is still ongoing and the police are still identifying the suspects.

According to the Mimaropa police, the attack was launched at 10:15 a.m. in Barangay Villa Cerveza, Victoria.

Alegria, who was aboard a Toyota Fortuner, was with three companions identified as Rufino Valenzuela, Allan Mesana, and a certain Edwin when the attacked happened.

After shooting Alegria and forcing the victim’s companions to undress and leave, the suspects, who were riding a white Toyota van and a purple Ford Everest, fled towards Barangay Alcate.
