President Duterte has warned the public about soldiers who venture into “military adventurism” and turn out to be dictators.
The President said he loves the country’s troops but some soldiers are “idiots” who think they are better than everyone else.
“Be careful with soldiers who are into adventurism. ‘Yan ang mga klaseng mag-coup d’état na mga diktador [Those are the kind that launch coup d’etat and become dictators],” he said during the administration campaign rally in Pasig City. “I love my military, I love my police but be careful about military adventurism,” he added.
In expressing his dismay with rebel soldiers, Duterte mentioned Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano and Magdalo group that were involved in past mutinies against the government.
He resented that these former soldiers were arrogant to think they were smart just because they graduated from Philippine Military Academy. “You think that you’re smart? Tapos you try into adventurism. You are elected then you abuse people,” he lamented.
He said if he was just a mayor, he would readily confront these rebel soldiers, saying they were not brave. “Kung na-mayor lang ako, pupuntahan kita sa bahay mo. Buhos ko ‘yang kape mo sa mukha mo. Totoo. Any time ko. I am ready to go. I’m 74,” he said.
In other countries, Duterte said some military rulers have enriched themselves while in power.
“In Africa, and they stay there for five years and they become billionaires overnight and you have to have a hard time removing them. Has to take an international action. Papasok ang America, UN, just to (overthrow them),” he said.
