Solicitor General Jose Calida has urged Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) President Abdiel Abdiel Dan Elijah Fajardo to resign for having allowed Peter Joemel Advincula to hold a press conference at the organization’s head office.

“Fajardo has turned the IBP into a highly politicized organization when it should advance the rule of law and stand for truth and justice,” Calida said in a statement.

“He is a disgrace to the IBP,” he added.

Though Fajardo does not speak for all IBP members which comprise all lawyers of the country, Calida said his actions “reflect badly on the organization and consequently, the legal profession.”

Calida made the statement even after Fajardo announced that the IBP has turned down Advincula’s request for legal assistance in filing charges against members of the family of President Duterte and senatorial bet Christopher “Bong” Go.

At the press conference, Monday Advincula said he is the “Bikoy” in the viral videos “Ang Totoong Narcolist.”

In the videos, Bikoy claims to be a former drug syndicate member who has personal knowledge about the involvement of the Duterte family and Go in the illegal drugs trade.

“The action of the president of the IBP betrays his intention to make the organization a venue for his political aspirations,” said Calida.

He said Fajardo had previously sought the reversal of the Supreme Court’s decision granting the quo warranto petition which resulted in the ouster of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

It was Calida who filed the quo warranto petition against Sereno.
