BUTUAN CITY – A 4.3-magnitude earthquake jolted Surigao del Sur province Wednesday morning but the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council reported no damage or injury.
In its bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) the tremor was registered at 2:01 a.m. Wednesday with epicentre plotted 69 kilometers (km) southeast of Marihatag town, Surigao del Norte province. It had a depth of 17 km.
The quake was tectonic in origin. No aftershock was felt nor a tsunami alert was raised.
But rescue teams and personnel of the disaster risk reduction and management councils (DRRMCs) were immediately mobilized to check on residents living in the coastal areas.
Meanwhile, eight mild tectonic quakes were also recorded early Wednesday morning in General Luna town, Siargao island, Surigao del Norte province, Phivolcs said in its latest bulletin.
