Land feud leaves 2 dead, 7 hurt

TACLOBAN CITY – A land dispute in Calbayog City, Samar, erupted into a bloody encounter which left two men killed and seven others wounded.

Police identified the fatalities as Renato Velasco and Terry Walker, 54.

Among the wounded were Romeo Velasco Sr., Romeo Velasco Jr., and Joshua Velasco.

Police reported that last Monday, Romeo Sr. tore down the bamboo fence around the land in Barangay Tinambacan Norte previously owned by the family of the suspects identified as Vicente Labonite, Mario Sayson, Helen Labonite and Angelo Jabonero.

The incident flared into violence with members of the groups clashing with guns and long knives.

Recovered from the scene were a caliber .38 revolver, a homemade shotgun or sumpak, two bolos, and a kitchen knife.
