PFF begins process of salvaging league season

The Philippine Football Federation has began the process of trying to salvage this year’s domestic league season after terminating its agreement with the operator of the Philippine Premier League on Friday.

PFF said in a statement released yesterday that it is planning to revive the Philippines Football League with a planned kickoff late this month after the PPL encountered numerous controversies in the lead-up to the opener held last weekend at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Stallion-Laguna and Global-Makati begged off from joining the PPL due to complaints over guidelines instituted by commissioner Bernie Sumayao.

The PPL also allowed Air Force and Mendiola to play the opener despite their failure to secure club licenses from the PFF.

Talks between the PFF and the five licensed clubs, namely Stallion, Global, Ceres Negros, Kaya Iloilo and Green Archers United, are set as they look to set the guidelines for the revived PFL and maintain the country’s two berths in AFC club competitions.
