Former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim vowed to provide lots for landless families in Manila once he wins in the upcoming midterm elections.
Lim said his ‘land for the landless program’, which he began when he assumed his third incumbency in 2007, will continue in Manila.
“Kung saan kayo nakatira, malapit dun tayo maghahanap ng mapagtatayuan ang mga housing project hindi ‘yung dadalhin kayo sa malalayong probinsiya dahil nauunawaan ko na narito sa Maynila ang inyong kabuhayan,” (Wherever you live, that’s where we will build the housing projects. I will not bring you to far provinces because I understand that your source of income is here in Manila), Lim said.
Under the said program, Lim said he will distribute thousands of lot awards to the Manilenos who were merely squatting or living in shanties.
Lim also vowed to embark on high-rise housing projects so that those without homes will be able to become home owners.
“Alam natin na ang pangarap ng bawat isa ay magkaroon ng sariling lupa at tahanan. Kung may mga real estate property, nag e-expropriate ang city” (We know that everyone’s dream is to own a house and lot. If there’s real estate property, the city will expropriate), he said.
