The country welcomes foreign investors but urged them to be “responsible” in promoting development, President Duterte said recently.
The President, speaking to the Chinese business community in Beijing last weekend, acknowledged that investments help spur the country’s infrastructure development as well as generate jobs for Filipinos.
“The Philippines welcomes responsible foreign investors as partners for national development,” he said during the business forum.
“The Philippine government guarantees, through good governance, an enabling environment that allows business and investments to prosper,” he added.
At present, Duterte recognized that China is the country’s largest trading partner and major source of foreign investments.
He also lauded the Belt and Road Initiative led by Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying the program complements the government’s “massive push for infrastructure development” under the Build, Build, Build program.
Duterte also assured the investors that he would not allow corruption and instead promote a friendly business atmosphere in the country. He urged them to report to his office any complaint of corruption or delay in government transactions for proper action.
