Woman and stepson nabbed in buy-bust op

A woman and her stepson were arrested by police in a buy-bust operation in Marikina City Wednesday night.

Police identified the suspects as Christine Dela Paz alias “Tiny,” 45; and her stepson Crisanto Uy alias “Cris,” 27, both of Barangay Malamday, Marikina City.

They were nabbed along Shoe Avenue in front of a supermarket in Barangay Sto. Niño around 11:35 p.m.

Marikina City Police said Tiny, later identified as Dela Paz, was allegedly involved with illegal drug peddling in the area based on a report they received from a tipster.

They were arrested shortly after an undercover cop was able to purchase P500-worth of illegal drugs from the suspects.

Cops seized from the duo five sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P5000 and a coin purse.

They are detained at Marikina City Police headquarters and charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act will be filed against them, police said. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)

P340,000 worth of illegal drugs seized in buy-bust op in QC

Sachets of illegal drugs amounting to ₱340,000 were seized by the police from an alleged notorious drug peddler included in the drug watchlist during a buy-bust in Quezon City on Wednesday night.

Police Lt. Col. Benjie Tremor, chief of Quezon City Police Station 10 (PS-10), identified the arrested suspect as Angelo Echano, known as “Noynoy,” 37, a resident of Barangay 186, Camarin, Caloocan City.

Investigation showed that Echano was included in the drug watchlist of their village and was also known in peddling illegal drugs in neighboring barangays in Quezon City.

After monitoring the suspect’s illegal activity, members of the PS-10 Drug Enforcement Unit immediately conducted a drug sting against him.

An undercover police officer transacted with Echano beside a bank at Kilometer 17, Commonwealth Avenue in Barangay Holy Spirit around 10:20 p.m. and purchased P15,000 worth of shabu.

Upon receiving the marked money, operatives immediately nabbed Echano who yielded different sizes of sachets containing white substance suspected to be shabu with an estimated street value of P340,000 resulting in his arrest.

Echano is now under police custody and was charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (Alexandria San Juan)

Motorcycle rider arrested for gun possession after being flagged down at a checkpoint

Police seized a gun from a motorcycle rider flagged down at a checkpoint in Marikina City Thursday morning.

Marikina City Police identified the suspect as Victor Gentalian, 37, of Barangay Cupang, Antipolo City.

Investigation showed that policemen were conducting a checkpoint along Sumulong Highway in Barangay Sto. Niño when they stopped Gentalian around 12:30 a.m. for not wearing a helmet.

When they approached the rider, Gentalian quickly alighted from his bike and cops saw that he threw a sachet of suspected shabu under his motorcycle, police said.

The cops then arrested Gentalian. When they searched him, they found a caliber 9mm pistol in his possession. Cops also confiscated his motorcycle, a digital weighing scale and a backpack.

Seven year old boy died after accidentally ingesting silver cleaning solution

A 7-year-old boy died after accidentally ingesting silver cleaning solution that was placed inside a soft drink bottle in Makati City on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Rain Mendoza. Mendoza died at around 10 in the morning yesterday at the Ospital ng Makati due to cyanide poisoning.

Investigation showed that police received a telephone call from the hospital regarding a chemical ingestion case at around 6:40 in the evening.

Verifying the report, police found out that Mendoza was admitted at 10:45 in the morning at the hospital who was unresponsive and was under cardio-respiratory distress.

During the interview by police with the victim’s mother Jennifer Mendoza, 37; she revealed that her 5-year-old son saw her brother lying inside the comfort room suffering from muscle stiffness as if having a convulsion.

Their neighbor “Tikboy” after noticing the incident immediately removed Rain from the bathroom and induced sugar to his mouth before bringing him to the hospital.

He was later revived and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit but died the next day.

Her mother went to the comfort room after the incident and noticed an opened bottle of mountain dew on the floor that was mistaken possibly by his son as a soft drink but contained a silver cleaning solution. (Dhel Nazario)

Detainee died while under the custody of police in QC

A 49-year-old detainee died while under the custody of the Quezon City police on Wednesday, almost a month after he was arrested for illegal gambling.

Investigators of the Quezon City Police District said Ruel Arceo, a resident of Barangay Bagong Silangan, succumbed to shortness of breath before arriving at the hospital.

Police report showed that Arceo was detained at the Quezon City Police Station 6 (PS-6) detention center in Barangay Batasan Hills after he was nabbed for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 or illegal gambling last April 7.

According to Arceo’s fellow detainees, they saw the victim sitting on one side of the detention cell and noticed that he was not breathing.

This prompted them to inform the duty jailer who immediately relayed the information to other officers.

Arceo was rushed by the policemen and barangay officers to East Avenue Medical Center but he was declared dead on arrival.

The attending physician said there are no external injuries noted on the victim’s body.

Further investigation is still ongoing to determine Arceo’s cause of death. (Alexandria San Juan)
