The Xiaomi brand has been known to pull off surprises although its latest mid-range phone, the Redmi Note 7, has long been heard of. Now, the much-awaited handset has landed and is good as advertised.
Taken out of the box, the device hardly stands out from the traditional mobile phones one would see in the market. It measures 159.2 x 75.2 x 8.1 mm and weighs about 186 grams, something that may be typical to folks who have seen the new breed of smartphones in stores. That includes a Gorilla Glass 5 front and back plus a body colored plastic frame. It comes with a protective case as well.
Up front, the Redmi Note 7 features a notch at the middle top of the 6.3-inch IPS screen with Full HD+ (2340 x 1080) resolution. On the outside, it sports a handy design although the big story of the phone is from the inside.
More than decent specs for a mid-ranger
The Redmi Note 7 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 (SDM660) backed by an Adreno 512 graphics processing unit (GPU). As far as RAM/ ROM count, there are two variants. The base model offers 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of ROM while the higher one offers 4/6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM.
With most folks expected to be wary of storage needs, the Redmi Note 7 does come with provisions for expandable storage through microSD (up to 256 GB).
Other notable specs for the Redmi Note 7 include a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and non-removable Li-Po 4,000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support.
Higher Pixels at your fingertips
Perhaps one of the eye-catching specs the Redmi Note 7 has would be the built-in cameras. It boasts of a 48 MP main camera + 5 MP main camera and a 13 MP front-facing shooter.
Take note that when used by default, the rear camera will render 12 MP resolution snaps. To maximize photo quality, users will need to go to Pro mode to do so. Videos are decent as well, capturing footages at 1080p at 60 fps or 1080p at 120 fps if used in high frame rate mode.
The selfie-shooting 13 MP front camera renders decent snaps although one may have to find the appropriate lighting to bump up quality photos.
The Redmi Note 7 runs on MIUI 10.2 based on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. Other features include the usual connectivity features like Dual-SIM, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and USB Type-C.
With a longer lasting battery and large screen, there is no doubt that the Redmi Note 7 can be of use for traditional and multimedia heavy users. Being a mid-range phone, this is one handset expected to rock the gadget-crazy consumers once more.
