Former bank manager arrested for stealing millions of insurance money from a bank client seven years ago
A former bank manager was arrested by police in Cainta, Rizal Thursday for allegedly stealing millions of insurance money from a bank client seven years ago.
Police identified the suspect as Andrew Pano, 45, of Barangay San Isidro, Cainta, Rizal.
He was nabbed at his house around 4:30 p.m. Thursday by the virtue of a non-bailable arrest warrant issued by Hon. Rowena De Juan-Quinagoran of Regional Trial Court Branch 166 in Pasig City, on Nov. 15, 2016 for the crime of qualified theft.
Investigation that Pano previously worked at Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) San Joaquin Branch in Pasig City for eighteen years where he reached the position of branch manager.
However, sometime between 2012 and early 2013, Pano allegedly took the P2,100,000 cash insurance deposit of Lourdes Takabayashi, a Japanese national and a regular client of the bank.
After the incident, Pano, a business degree graduate, went into hiding and was only found years later in Rizal, police said.
He is now detained at the Pasig City Police detention cell and his court of origin will be notified of his arrest. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
Two jeepney barkers nabbed in buy-bust op in San Juan
Two jeepney barkers, who allegedly supply illegal drugs to jeepney drivers, were arrested by police in a buy-bust operation in San Juan City Friday.
PCOL Ariel Fulo, San Juan City Police chief, identified the suspects as Edgar Cerame, 46; and Sonny Boy Saquillo, 36; both residents of Blumentritt Street, Barangay Kabayanan, San Juan City.
The duo was nabbed along F. Manalo Street, Barangay Kabayanan at around 9:20 a.m. after weeks of police surveillance.
Fulo said the men were believed to be peddling drugs to jeepney drivers, particularly those plying the F. Manalo Street route.
The police chief also revealed that Cerame was a known drug pusher and was detained in 2005 for drug-related charges. He was freed seven years later after he was acquitted by the court.
On the other hand, Fulo said Saquillo was a known drug user in Barangay Kabayanan.

Two 'akyat-bahay' members killed in shootout with police in Quezon City
Two “Akyat Bahay” suspects were killed after allegedly engaging policemen in an encounter in Quezon City early Saturday morning.
Quezon City Police District Director PBGEN Joselito Esquivel Jr described the slain suspects, who have yet to be identified, as in their early 30s.
One of them was wearing white-striped long sleeves and brown jersey shorts, with a “Luningning” tattoo on his right chest.
While the other wore a black hooded jacket, a black and white t-shirt, and short pants.
A police report showed that at around 1:17 a.m. Saturday, two men, suspiciously roaming around Jonaville Subdivision in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon, Novaliches, were reported to the authorities.
Responding policemen arrived in the area and saw the duo matching the description in the report.
Upon their approach, the suspects drew their guns and fired shots toward the cops who then retaliated that led to a shootout, police said.

Myanmar national nabbed for stealing P1.8 million from a BPO company he was working at
A 20-year-old Myanmar national was arrested by police in Mandaluyong City Friday for allegedly stealing P1.8 million from a business process outsourcing company he was working at.
PCOL Moises Villaceran Jr, Mandaluyong City Police chief, identified the suspect as Zaw Htet Aung, a customer service provider of Global Link Company located in Barangay Wack-Wack, Mandaluyong City.
Villaceran said that Aung was in charge of receiving and depositing the collection money of the company, but instead, Aung diverted the money to his personal bank account.
“The discrepancy was discovered when the management of the company conducted an audit and inventory,” Villaceran said.
On the other hand, a police report showed that Aung allegedly planned to spend the money on a high-end KTV bar.
Fortunately, the company closely monitored his activities and reported Aung to the authorities, the report added.

Two injured in convent fire in Quezon City
A nun and a fire volunteer were injured in a fire that broke out in a convent in Quezon City midnight on Saturday.
The Quezon City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said 69-year-old Sister Bernadette Al Buquerque, an Indian national, sustained a first-degree burn on her right upper forearm.
While fire volunteer Tommy de Leon, 30, sustained a laceration on his right hand.
The fire, that engulfed the convent of the Sisters of St. Anne along Dama de Noche Street in Barangay Mariana, started around 12:18 a.m.
It reached the second alarm minutes later at around 12:36 a.m. and at around 1:07 a.m., the blaze was declared fire out, the BFP said.
According to the BFP, the fire started on the second-floor bedroom of the convent and spread to three nearby houses, affecting six families.
Arson investigators pegged the damage of the fire to around P100,000 while the investigation is ongoing to determine its cause. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
