Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle is calling on the faithful to support Caritas Manila’s Alay Kapwa Telethon to help fund programs for the poor, the needy, the sick, and calamity survivors.
In a pastoral letter, His Eminence stressed that aside from prayer and reflection, Lent is a time for charity and showing compassion to the poor and the needy.
Caritas Manila’s Alay Kapwa Telethon will be held on Holy Monday and will be aired live by Church-run Radio Veritas from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tagle said funds raised through Alay Kapwa will be used by Caritas Manila, the social action arm of the archdiocese, to provide relief to calamity survivors through its Damayan program. Last year, the Alay Kapwa Telethon was able to raise P5 million which was used by Caritas Damayan to help families affected by typhoons Agaton, Josie, and Ompong, rehabilitation efforts in Marawi, aid to the Lumads in Mindanao, families affected by the Mayon Volcano eruption, fire victims in Metro Manila, among others.
The cardinal expressed hope for the faithful to include in their Lenten observance their willingness to help with open-hearts. Interested parties may call Radio Veritas at 925 – 7931 to 39.
