Buto, Usman, Pamplona lead National age-group chess winners

Al Basher “Basty” Buto of Cainta, Rizal, Mark Gabriel Usman of Laguna and Ruslan Pamplona of Passi City, Iloilo were adjudged winners of the boys’ Under-10 division of the 2019 Gov. Amor Deloso National Age Group Chess Championships Grandfinals held at the Zambales Sports Complex in Iba, Zambales on Tuesday.

Buto, a top player of Faith Christian School, beat Jeo Daniel Tatoy of Cebu in the last round to top the boys’ Under-10 division with ten points.

Usman, on the other hand, halved the point with Keith Adriane Ilar of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental for to land solo second with 8 points.

Pamplona, the pride of Passi I Central School and top player of sportsman Jerry Palmares, meantime split the point with Art Noblijas of Zamboanga City to occupied third place with 7 points.

Buto, Usman and Pamplona will thus represent the country in the upcoming 20th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship slated for June 9 to 19 in Mandalay City, Myanmar.
