Pia Wurtzbach fans to launch 'Darna' drive starting April 7

Will 2015 Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach finally get to play the role of Darna this time?

After actress Liza Soberano tearfully withdrew from the 'Darna' movie project, a group of Wurtzbach fans would launch a campaign for her to be considered for the iconic role beginning Sunday, April 7.

"ATTENTION TO ALL THE SUPPORTERS OF #MissUniverse2015 Pia Wurtzbach @piawurtzbach IN THE UNIVERSE! sa darating na Linggo! Alas 12 AM ay sabay sabay po tayo sumugod sa Twitter at subukan ipa-trend ang hashtag na #PiaForDarna at i-tag sa bawat twitter post ang @StarCinema para lalo pang mapansin ng mga producers ang kakayahan ng ating reyna Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach na ganapin ang iconic role na Darna sa mundo ng pelikula! Ipakita po natin ulit ang ating pwersa sa kalawakan! Maraming Salamat Po!" a follower commented on Pia's Instagram on Friday.

Other hashtags are #AngBagongDarna #Darna #StarCinema #MarsRavelo #PiaWurtzbach #MissUniverse #MissUniverso #ConfidentlyBeautifulWithAHeart #PIAnatics.

Jonas Gaffud, creative director of Miss Universe Philippines and manager of the Filipino-German beauty queen, said that he has not discussed the idea with Wurtzbach.

"Hindi ko pa sya nakakausap nga eh hahaha. Pero ako gusto ko," said Gaffud in an exclusive interview. (I haven't talked to her about it. But I like the idea).

The idea for Wurtzbach to play Darna was initially brought to them in 2017. But in May of the same year, Gaffud dismissed that the beauty queen's transfer to the network has nothing to do with Darna.

In January 2019, it was reported that Wurtzbach would play Valentina in Darna opposite Soberano. It was said that Wurtzbach had accepted the role. However, Pia has neither admitted nor denied it.

On April 2, as reported by Push.com, Wurtzbach said that she would love to play Marvel's first Filipina superhero Wave, which will be part of its upcoming series "War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas."

"If there's going to be an audition for it, I'm going to try for that. Why not, right?" the beauty queen said.

Wurtzbach said that playing a superhero has always been a dream, just like going to Hollywood. "Well, that dream is still there, I'm still trying to pursue my dream. I know that I still have a long way to go."
