PBA: Ginebra takes opener

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel moved on the threshold of advancing to the semifinals after defeating Magnolia, 86-75, in the opener of their best-of-three PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Greg Slaughter had 15 points and 12 rebounds, Art dela Cruz scored 14 points while Japeth Aguilar and Scottie Thompson added 12 points and 19 combined rebounds to help Ginebra cruised to victory over its “Manila Clasico” rival.

Ginebra outscored Magnolia, 27-9, in the second quarter to take a 44-27 halftime lead on its way to closing in on making the semifinals for the ninth straight conference.

The Kings go for the sweep on Monday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Paul Lee and Ian Sangalang finished with 15 and 14 points for the Hotshots.
