A total of 28 assorted loose firearms were handed-over to the Army’s 603rd Infantry Brigade through the 90th Infantry Battalion in a simple turnover ceremony held at Talayan Municipal Hall in Maguindanao on Tuesday, March 26.

The turnover of firearms was held during the eighth regular meeting of “Kapamagayon” Inter-Agency Task Force (KIATF), an ad hoc organization composed of the six municipalities from Kabuntalan, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Talayan, Talitay, Guindulungan and the 603rd Infantry Brigade with 90th Infantry Battalion and 5th Special Forces Battalion.

It was recalled that the KIATF was activated last June 29, 2017 as one of the joint initiatives and advocacy of the 603rd Infantry Brigade and LCEs.

The meeting discussed the security updates, criminality and preparation for the upcoming midterm local and national elections.

Talayan Municipal Mayor Hon. Datu Tungkang Midtimbang, Al-Haj hosted the event and encouraged the other mayors to continue to strengthen their advocacies as KIATF members to pursue common objectives.

The activity was highlighted with the oath-taking of Col. Wilbur C. Mamawag Commander, 603rd Infantry Brigade as the new Co-Chairperson of the KIATF.

“From now the message must be spread and the commitment must be translated into action to ensure peace and security in the community, and we will work as a team,” Mamayag said.

As a sign of commitment and support to the campaign against proliferation of loose firearms, the KIATF presented the 28 assorted firearms from the municipalities of Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Guindulungan, Talayan, and Talitay

Handed over were two Grenade Launcher, six M79 Grenade Launcher, five 12 Gauge Shotguns, one Uzi, two cal.45 pistols, seven cal.38 pistols, two cal.22 pistols, one M14 sniper rifle and two KG9.

“The handover of firearms is a continuing campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms in the area of 603rd Infantry Brigade,” said Lt. Col. Crizanto Fernandez, Commanding Officer of the 90th IB.

Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana, the Commander of the 6th Infantry Division, expressed his gratitude to the efforts of the KIATF, particularly to the local chief executives for extending their support of the 6ID’s campaign against loose firearms.

As of this day, a total of 2,053 were handed over and recovered in the areas of 6th ID.
