Nearing the halfway mark of President Duterte’s six-year term, Malacañang has vowed to stay on the “right track” in delivering real change to the people.
Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said the Duterte administration was committed to continue to build on its gains in the remainder of its term.
Panelo issued the statement after welcoming Congress’ submission of the proposed 2019 national budget to the Office of the President (OP).
“As we approach the midpoint of the Duterte Administration, we remain determined to build on the significant gains that we have started in the first two-and-a-half years and continue to stay on the right track to deliver real and lasting change to our people,” he said.
The Senate earlier approved the 2019 budget proposal with reservations and transmitted the document to the President’s office for his action. The approval of the budget has been delayed amid conflict over alleged unlawful realignments.
Panelo also lauded the two houses of Congress for ending the stalemate on the proposed budget for the year. The new budget proposal will be thoroughly reviewed by the President, he added.
“We welcome the fact that the enrolled General Appropriations Bill has already been sent to the Office of the President. We commend both Houses of Congress by breaking the impasse on the national budget thereby performing their mandated task,” he said.
“We assure our people that the President will go over the enrolled bill, scrutinize it and sign it should the same be in accordance with our Constitution and the laws,” he said.
