The municipal peace and order council of Doña Remedios Trinidad (DRT), Bulacan approved a resolution, declaring Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) terrorists persona non grata.

The proposal for a resolution came from the Army’s 48th Infantry Battalion (48th IB) which is based in Bulacan.

Lt. Col. Felix Emeterio M. Valdez, acting commanding officer of the 48th IB, proposed the idea during the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) of DRT last March 12, 2019.

“This is where we come a step closer to the lasting peace we aim for. The declaration speaks in behalf of the people of DRT, that they are ready to embrace the lasting peace for sustainable development in the years to come,” Valdez said.

The MPOC meeting was presided by Mayor Ronaldo T. Flores. It was attended by the different department heads of the DRT local government, DRT Chief of Police Sr. Insp. Isabelo Mondejar, and members of the Sanguniang Bayan were also at the meeting.

The resolution was formed in line with the Memorandum Circular No. 2018-211 of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) with the Subject: Prohibition of Support to Left Wing Rebel Group, and Executive Order No. 70: Institutionalizing the whole-of-nation approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace, creating a national task force to end local communist armed conflict, and directing the adoption of a national peace framework.

Maj. Gen. Lenard T Agustin, commander of the Seventh Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, emphasized that the whole-of-nation approach marks the start of a new campaign to end the insurgency.

“And those who religiously practice this approach give the people a chance to have better and more peaceful lives,” Agustin said.
