1 dies, 2 injured as ammonia leaks from Pagadian ice plant

PAGADIAN CITY– Ammonia leaked from the ice plant of a fish packing company here, killing a laborer and sending two others to a nearby hospital.

Police Regional Director Emmanuel Luis D. Licup said ammonia escaped from Ramona Fishing Corporation plant on Rizal Ave., Tuburan District, just after about 6 p.m. Saturday .

Killed was Jelmar Montesa Bulay, a 19-year-old ice plant laborer and resident of Bayog town, Zamboanga del Sur.

Licup said Bulay’s fellow workers rushed him to Aisah Hospital where he was declared dead.

The two other victims who were brought to the same hospital were Brinton Wasawas, 29, a machine operator, and Alberto Singedas, 60.
Wasawas, a stay-in employee at the plant, and Singedas sustained minor injuries.

Licup said the Pagadian police station was coordinating with the of Fire Protection in investigating the incident.
