ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Police Regional Office in Zamboanga peninsula (PRO-9) on Friday announced that the number of shooting incidents in the region went down by at least 45.71 percent as compared to last year covering the same period from January to February.
PRO-9 Director Police Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Luis D. Licup said a total of 40 shooting incidents were registered in the region from January to February of 2019, lower by about 45.71 percent compared to 72 shooting incidents that were posted during the same period in 2018.
Licup said the decrease in the shooting incidents posted in 2019 attributed to the regular police checkpoints and police visibility in most hot spots in the region.
The stepped-up operations against gun-for-hire group across the region also led to the decline in the number of shooting incidents.
Licup noted that out of 40 shooting incidents from January to February this year, 16 were attributed to gun for hire.
He emphasized that the intensified law enforcement operations against illegal drugs have contributed much to the decrease in the shooting incidents registered this year region-wide.
Licup also lauded policemen in the region for their remarkable effort that led to the decrease.
