LILOAN, Cebu – Regional groups Hugpong ng Pagbabago and One Cebu formally forged Friday an alliance that is expected to further strengthen the chances of victory of HNP senatorial bets in vote rich Cebu.
HNP chairperson and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and One Cebu leader and House Deputy Speaker Gwendolyn Garcia led the ceremony for the signing of the alliance pact which was witnessed by thousands of political leaders in this fast-progressing locality.
Also signing the document were former Rep. PJ Garcia and Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco for One Cebu and Compostela Valley Gov. Jayvee Tyron-Uy, representing HNP.
While the 13-man HNP senatorial bets are guaranteed of support from Cebu’s formidable political group headed by Garcia, the House official, on the other hand, was given an assurance of undivided backing from Duterte.
Garcia said the signing of the alliance agreement erases claims by her political opponent of backing from Duterte.
Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte, the Davao City mayor’s father, endorsed the House leader’s candidacy for governor, Garcia told reporters yesterday.
“I feel very, very lucky that I have both the president and the presidential daughter endorsing my candidacy as governor,” she told reporters.
One Cebu has been one of the provincial political organizations credited for Duterte’s landslide victory during the presidential elections.
The president won by over a million in margin over the votes gathered in 2016 by Liberal Party bet former Secretary Mar Roxas.
Garcia, chairperson of PDP-Laban in the province, faces incumbent Vice Governor Agnes Almendras Magpale for governor.
Running in tandem with Garcia as vice governor is Daphne Salimbangon while Magpale is partnered with incumbent Gov. Hilario Davide III.
“Mayor Sara”s endorsement comes on the heels of another one claiming to have been endorsed,” said Garcia.
She said that when the mayor asked her to help campaign for HNP candidates by putting their line-up in tarpaulin posters, it guarantees an undivided Duterte support.
