Communications Secretary Martin Andanar confirmed that China will donate P15 million worth of equipment to the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) as part of efforts to upgrade government media.
In a text message, Andanar said Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua has “committed” to the donation during their conversation at the state banquet for Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad in Malacañang early this month.
“The PCOO Organization is honored to be a constant recipient of donations and scholarships from the embassy of China since 2016,” Andanar said.
“The act of goodwill is very timely because we are aggressively rehabilitating our government media agencies,” he said.
The equipment includes laptops, desktops, microphones, audio consoles which will be used by the Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS) and Philippine News Agency (PNA).
The donation is set to arrive in May or June.
“I want to thank Ambassador Zhao for donating equipment to the Office of the Secretary Media,” Andanar said in an interview over Radyo Pilipinas.
In an Instagram post Friday, Andanar said he has turned over to the OSEC Media brand new and top-of-the-line video production equipment donated by Zhao.
In February, China also donated computers, camcorders and teleprompters to PBS and PNA. It also provided scholarship programs for government media officials who want to study in China.
