The Metro Rail Transit-Line 3 (MRT-3) is set to have its annual general maintenance shutdown on Holy Week, from Holy Monday, April 15, to Easter Sunday, April 21.
In its advisory, MRT-3 announced Tuesday that maintenance works, such as rail grinding, rail cascading, replacement of turnouts, structural testing, and other general maintenance activities, will be undertaken on its trains, electrical systems, and subsystems for the week.
Operations will continue on April 22, Monday.
“We ask for the understanding, patience of our commuters as we take the necessary maintenance measures towards making MRT-3 more reliable, efficient, parallel with our comprehensive rehabilitation and overhaul of the entire system,” the statement read.
On Monday around 6:02 p.m., an MRT-3 coach encountered a “technical difficulty” between Cubao and Santolan stations.
Train passengers were asked to disembark & walk along the rail tracks to the nearest MRT station due to the emission of smoke from underneath the train.
In an interview with DZBB, Engr. Mike Capati, MRT-3 director for operations said the traction motor of the train fused which caused the high voltage wire to trip.
