E. Visayas maritime police highlight accomplishments

CAMP RUPERTO KANG­LEON, PALO, Leyte – The Re­gional Maritime Unit (RMU) of the Eastern Samar police has rolled out its list of ac­complishment for the fourth quarter of last year.

Sr. Supt. Primitivo C. Bay­ogan, RMU chief told report­ers Tuesday that the unit carried out 12 operations resulting in the arrest of 120 personalities for fishing law violations.

The RMU also confiscated three fishing boats, nine fish­ing gear and 20 kilos of fish valued at P3,123,650, Bayogan said.

In 40 other operations for enforcing municipal or­dinances, the unit arrested 51 personalities, seized 25 fishing boats, 18 fishing gear and 15 compressors valued at P2,828,900 and collected fines amounting to P90,050.

The unit also arrested and charged a person for violation of Chainsaw Act of 2002, on Nov. 28. A criminal case for violation of Sec. 7 of RA 9175 otherwise known as “Chain­saw Act of 2002.”

It also arrested another person for illegal possession of firearms, Bayogan said.

The unit also provided security and carried out seaborne patrols during the visit of President Duterte when he attended the turn­over of the Balangiga Bells, and the visit of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio during the wreath-laying at MV Eva Jocelyn memorial in Tacloban City, he said.

The RMU also conducts daily inspections of baggage and individuals at the Wharf Area in Tacloban, Calbayog City port, Ormoc City port, Maasin City port, and the ferry terminals in Allen, North­ern Samar, Liloan, South­ern Leyte, and San Ricardo, Southern Leyte.
