A man was arrested by the police after he allegedly started a fire that reached the fourth alarm in Tondo, Manila on Saturday evening.
The police identified the suspect as a certain “Bindong”, 22, who allegedly used a lighter and spray paint to start the blaze. Officials also said that fire victims mauled him.
According to Supt. Gen. Licud, the fire victims told him that Bindong started the fire from the second floor of a three-story residential house owned by Aldrin Manansala at around 8 p.m. on March 16 along Launasa Street, Tondo Manila.
Licud also said that Bindong previously threatened to start a fire. Bindong will face arson charges and will undergo a psychological examination, Licud added.
Arson investigators said the fire has reached fourth alarm at 8:56 p.m. before it was put out at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday.
No casualty was reported but five people were given medical attention because of difficulty in breathing and high blood pressure. They are now in stable condition, police officials said.
Around 150 families were affected by the incident with property losses amounting to P1 million.
