No official from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is soliciting money for lechon, the department said.

In an advisory, the agency has cautioned employees, officials, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and the public that no one from the agency is authorized to engage in a solicitation activity.

It was disclosed that the name of Western Visayas Regional Director Wenceslao Leaño, Jr. was being used to ask money from different contractors to sponsor lechon for a certain activity.

According to the DPWH, a certain individual is impersonating Leaño through phone calls.

“Please be advised that no individual or organization is authorized to use the name of any DPWH official for favor,” the regional office said.

“Please be vigilant in giving out information especially contact numbers of our colleagues to avoid similar incidents,” it added.

To caution employees and the people outside the department, the regional office released the contact number of the alleged poser which is 09279153609.

The department also urged the public to report any similar incident to avoid getting duped.

Solicitation involving public official is prohibited by law, the department said. A corresponding action will be imposed for those who will be found committing the same violation.

Last week, a regional director of the department also belied claims that he is soliciting fund for a certain cause.

In a statement, DPWH-Region 1 Regional Director Rommel Tan said that he “has neither solicited nor authorized any solicitations and shall in no way do or cause the doing of the same.”
