Kennon Road will be opened to motorists over the weekend, the Department of Public Works and Highways announced.
The road will be opened to two-way traffic from Friday afternoon until 6 a.m. on Monday, the department said.
However, it will only be passable to light vehicles with gross weight of five tons and below.
According to Regional Director Alberto Mogol, of the Office of the Civil Defense-Cordillera Administrative Region, the two-way traffic opening over the weekend is a simulation activity in order to determine whether or not the road line can contain a two-way traffic on a weekend basis.
The temporary reopening of the vulnerable road was announced following a meeting with the Task Force Kennon Road. According to officials, it was a result of the “success of the one-way traffic scheme of the road line implemented from February 14 to 18 and February 22 to March 4.
Motorists are still advised to take extra precaution for possible rock falls and slides. They are also advised to slow down at one-lane road sections along Camp 1 and Camp 3.
Mogol furthered that safety is still a priority so should there be major life-threatening accidents in the area, the Task Force Kennon Road will not hesitate to close the road line immediately.
It can be recalled that the road was temporarily opened to light vehicles going to Baguio City during the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Alumni Homecoming and Panagbenga Festival.
