Robredo camp decries false socmed posts of Marcos supporters

The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday warned the public against false social media posts by supporters of former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. about his election protest.

“The country’s Fake News King is at it again, sending out another propaganda in a desperate move to revive his dying election protest,” said Robredo’s lead lawyer Romulo Macalintal.

Macalintal, who is running for senator in the May 13 polls, reacted on the Facebook posts by pro-Marcos groups that claimed 80 percent of ballots in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) were pre-shaded and fake.

A certain Facebook user named Ramon Andrade Cereno Jr. and the BBM Worldwide Leaders Alliance posted a graphic alongside a caption saying: “SC declare BBM Now, Naglabasan mga ebidensya (Evidence came out).”

Robredo’s lawyer said the Supreme Court, acting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, just recently finished the vote recount in Iloilo, Negros Oriental and Camarines Sur, where Robredo maintained her lead over Marcos.

Marcos had chosen these three pilot provinces, where the initial recount of ballots was held. The PET ruled that the merit of his protest against Robredo will rest on the results of this recount.

“Unang una, kakatapos pa lang ng recount at nakita naman sa manifestations namin na lumalamang pa nga kami,” said Macalintal.

(First of all, the recount just ended and it was seen in our manifestations that we were leading.)

“Pangalawa, wala namang desisyon ang PET na pinapanigan si Marcos ukol sa tatlong pilot provinces na pinili niya,” Macalintal added.

(Second, the PET has no decision in favor of Marcos regarding the three pilot provinces he had chosen.)

The veteran lawyer noted that the Marcos’ protest is “virtually dead” for his failure to gain substantial recovery of votes from the three provinces during the recount.

Marcos needs to obtain substantial recovery before his protest could proceed in the other areas such as ARMM, said Macalintal.

Robredo defeated Marcos by a narrow 263,473 votes in the vice presidential race. She is facing an election protest filed by Marcos on allegations that she cheated in the 2016 polls.

Macalintal slammed Marcos’ propaganda as an attempt to “insult and demonize” ARMM voters.

“Insulto naman ito sa mga kapatid natin sa Bangsamoro. Gaya ng pag-insulto ni Marcos sa mga botante ng Camarines Sur, Negros Occidental at Iloilo, sinasabi ni Marcos na mga sinungaling sila,” he said.

(This is an insult to our brothers and sisters in Bangsamoro. Like when Marcos insulted the voters of Camarines Sur, Negros Occidental and Iloilo, whom he said were liars.)
