“This year’s distinguished Filipina women in their own very unique ways embody courage, daring, and audacity,” said Consul General Claro Cristobal.

Heidi Mendoza, the first Filipino to be appointed as Undersecretary General in the United Nations, was awarded with the Distinguished Filipino Woman in Public Service Award.

“Fighting corruption is just like being a mom. Ang paglaban sa katiwalian ay katulad ng pagiging isang nanay, walang karapatang mag-pahinga at walang karapatang mapagod,” Mendoza said.

Major Jessica Alina Persad, a member of the Air Force National Guard, was also honored for her service.

“Filipina-Americans are really setting the standard for success. I’m really proud to be a part of this group. Continue being you, continue doing what you love, continue to develop the voice that you have, because you know, women, we’re doing something great,” she said.

Erin Robles, a renowned food blogger with more than 75,000 followers on Instagram, was recognized as one of this year’s distinguished Filipinas in the Big Apple.

“Even if you don’t have the most followers or likes but if you post something and a lot of people listen, you got a lot of engagements for a certain thing, you make people think, you make people ask questions, then in that sense, you are influencing,” Robles said.
