The Mandaluyong City Police chief issued a stern warning Thursday saying that they will arrest residents creating disturbances and disorder during the distribution of water rations to barangays affected by the ongoing water crisis in the city.
“Kung may katiting kayong kaguluhan na gagawin dito, huhulihin kayo (If you create disorder [during the distribution], you will be arrested),” said Senior Supt. Moises Villaceran, the city police chief.
As of Thursday, Villaceran said that the situation at the distribution areas was “manageable,” but he said that there were some residents who tried to cut the line.
The police chief already deployed his men on Wednesday to maintain the order at water distribution areas in barangays affected in the city.
“All [barangay] chairmen were advised to facilitate the distribution of water with the presence of the police,” Villaceran said.
“Mayroon (There is a) schedule of distribution because all barangays have their own firetrucks,” he added.
Mandaluyong City is one of the cities in Metro Manila hit the hardest by the prevailing water crisis for several days now.
According to Manila Water, the water supply on 17 out of 27 barangays in the city will be cut off and it will last for about 20 hours.
