President Duterte said the problem with him criticizing the Catholic Church and calling God “stupid” is that God might just call his bluff and claim his life.

The President said this in jest as he resumed his tirades against members of the clergy during his speech at the PDP-Laban proclamation rally in Isabela Wednesday night.

Duterte reiterated that his God is not the same as the God of the priests because his would not listen to people who pray for the death of others.

“Your God is not my God. G**d*** it. Bakit ka magdasal ka ng kamatayan ng isang tao (Why would you pray for others to die)? If your God would listen to you, your God is stupid,” he said.

However, he said what he fears is that God may just get angry with his remarks and make him face the consequences.

“Ang problema ‘yang sabihin talaga ng Diyos na (The problem is God might just say, ‘Ah, Duterte ha, okay, I am stupid, I will kill you tonight.’ P***** i**,” he said.

The President then said that he is not serious and that his remarks were just for politics.

“Diyos, pang-pulitika man lang ‘yun doon sa ano. Ano lang ‘yon, politics ba, patawa. Hindi ‘yan totoo (God, that’s just for politics. Just to make people laugh. It’s not true that You are stupid),” he said.

“Kasi baka nga p***** i** magalit na rin ang Diyos, sabihin niya stupid (Because God might just get angry because I called him stupid). ‘Ah, stupid ako ha (You said I’m stupid)? Okay. I will call your bluff.’ Tapos mag-ganun-ganun na lang ako (And then I would just end up dead),” he added.

Duterte’s beef with the Catholic Church stemmed from the criticisms of members of the clergy on his drug war and other issues. He has claimed that most of the men of the cloth are homosexuals and the religion would die in 25 years.

The President said that priests are welcome to call him out especially if they are Filipinos. However, he reasoned out that they should not be doing it while behind the pulpit because it opens the religion to criticism.

Duterte also explained that he believes in God and had apologized for calling God stupid. He also repeatedly said that the presidency is a gift from God.
