Businessman Steve Pasion, whose clients include celebrities, was about to be arrested when he allegedly grabbed the handgun of an agent, which prompted other officers to shoot him.

The suspect’s girlfriend, 26-year-old part-time model Irene Mercado, was arrested in the operation which yielded 23 tablets of the party drug ecstasy worth P30,000 and 50 grams shabu with an estimated street value of P340,000.

In a speech in Isabela, Duterte said he was informed by PDEA director general Aaron Aquino that the number one distributor of ecstasy in the country was killed in an encounter.

“Kagabi nag-usap kami ni Aaron Aquino tapos sabi nya, ‘Sir, namatay na yung number one distributor ng ecstasy.’ Sabi ko, ‘Announce mo, 1 million five,’ kasi tatlo yata ang patay (I spoke with Aaron Aquino last night. He told me that the number one distributor of ecstasy was killed. I told him to announce that I am giving P1.5 million because I think three died there),” he said.

Pasion, an alleged bigtime party drugs supplier for celebrities and models, was killed in a buy-bust operation Monday night.

According to PDEA, Pasion was being arrested in the parking lot of his condominium unit at Barangay 310 in Sta. Cruz, Manila, following the buy-bust operation when he grabbed the firearm of one agent, prompting the shootout.

PDEA said that two of Pasion’s celebrity clients were now being monitored by the agency after the businessman’s cellphone showed text messages detailing their transactions.

Aside from the illegal drugs, PDEA was also able to recover from Pasion’s condominium unit a kilo of shabu worth P6 million, three bottles of liquid ecstasy worth P75,000, and other drug paraphernalia.

The operation on Monday was a followup to the one conducted by agents on February 8 in a condominium unit on Tomas Morato Avenue at Barangay Kristong Hari in Quezon City where two part-time models and an event organizer were arrested.
