A Chinese survey team conducting a feasibility study on the Panay-Negros Bridge project rescued two Filipino fishermen after their boat capsized off Guimaras Strait last March 1.

The two fishermen were spotted floating in the middle of the sea at around 7:20 a.m. last March 1 by Feng Minhua, a surveyor for CCCC Highway Consultants Co. Ltd., who was conducting marine water depth measurements for the island project.

The surveyors immediately rescued the distressed fishermen and managed to tow the two damaged fishing boats back to Sibunag wharf.

The fishermen said they went fishing early when the tide was low but the sea condition suddenly changed. Their fishing boats eventually collapsed after it was hit by strong winds and waves.

The rescued fishermen and their families expressed their gratitude to the survey team for rescuing them and for towing their fishing boats without claiming any charges.

It was during the November 2018 state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Philippines when President Duterte and the visiting Chinese leader witnessed the signing of the agreement for the implementation of the Panay-Negros Bridge project.

The feasibility study on the PGN Island Bridge Project is being undertaken by CCCC Highway Consultants Co. Ltd. with technical assistance from China.
