Anti-scalawag operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have arrested another rookie cop for another case of extortion, this time in Pampanga.

Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat, director of the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF), said the operation that resulted in the arrest of Police Officer 1 Rosario Vanzuela stemmed from a complaint of a motorist who figured in an accident on February 15 in Mabalacat City.

“The accident involves a private motorist and a patrol vehicle of the Mabalacat City Police Station,” said Caramat.

Based on the complaint lodged at the CITF, PO1 Valenzuela was allegedly forcing the victim to pay P15,000 for the repair of the car.

The rookie cop also allegedly told the victim that he would only release the driver’s license if he would pay the amount.

Caramat said they immediately set up an entrapment in a convenience store near the gate of the Clark Freeport Zone on Friday night.

“The suspect was arrested after receiving the marked money,” said Caramat.

Some 100 policemen have been arrested since the creation of the CITF two years ago. Almost all the cases are related to extortion.

On the other hand, at least five policemen were also killed by CITF operatives, and all the cases were drug-related.

The PNP leadership earlier vowed to dismiss policemen who would be involved in extortion activities, particularly those involved in illegal drugs.
