Fugitive, son killed in encounter with military

A father and his son who has been involved in a number of armed atrocities were killed following an encounter against government troops in Maguindanao early this week.

Lt. Col. Oliver Baylon, the Commanding Officer of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-7, identified the two as Tenti Taup alias Winston and his son Minggoy.

It was learned that personnel of MBLT-7 were conducting patrol operations when it engaged Lawless Elements (LEs) in a firefight at vicinity of Sitio Kamalig, Brgy. Sedem, Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao, that resulted in the neutralization of the Taups, at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 26.

The armed encounter lasted for more or less 10 minutes with no casualty on government side.

Troops recovered an M16 rifle and two magazines with 47 rounds.

Tenti Taup has existing Warrant of Arrest for attempted murder and arson. The Taup father and son operate in Kalamansig and were said to be involved in a number of armed atrocities.

Baylon said the two have evaded Focus Military Operations (FMO) by seeking sanctuary in Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

The remains of the two were properly turned over to barangay officials of Brgy. Sedem, DBS, Maguindanao led by Chairman Adam W. Salik and to the relatives for Muslim burial in Brgy. Laguitan, DBS, Maguindanao at about7:30 p.m. the same day.
