A suspected Communist New People’s Army (NPA) terrorist was killed in an encounter with the military in Masbate on Sunday.

A report from the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Southern Luzon Command (AFP-SoLCom), said the encounter took place at Barangay San Antonio, Milagros, Masbate at about 6:30 a.m..

Military troops also seized M14 and M653 rifles, two IEDs, and subversive documents.

It was learned that troops from the Second Infantry Battalion, 22nd Infantry Battalion and Milagros Municipal Police Station were on patrol when they encountered more or less 10 NPA terrorists.

The rebels retreated after the brief clash.

Troops of Joint Task Force (JTF) Bicolandia immediately conducted pursuit operations following civilian reports of several wounded men sighted in a nearby barangay.

Maj. Gen. Gilbert Gapay, SolCom Commander, commended members of the composite force from 2nd IB, 22nd IB and Milagros MPS for another successful focus military operation.

He also encouraged the remaining terrorists to return to the folds of the law.

“The ideology is gone. It’s all extortion and criminal activities now. Lay down your firearms and let the government help you build better lives,” he said.
