Dr. Patricia Grace Trabado, chief of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (Iloilo PHO), said this door-to-door measles vaccination in the 42 towns and component city of Passi will start next week.
Based on Iloilo PHO records, there is a low measles vaccination coverage.
“We found out that there were also kids with missed vaccinations. So we need to intensify our campaign in order to reach them,” Trabado pointed out.
She also admitted that the low vaccination coverage was due largely to parents who refused to get their children vaccinated in the aftermath of the controversial Dengvaxia issue.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. also called on the parents to be responsible and not wait for their children to be stricken with the highly contagious disease.
“The vaccines are available and are free,” Defensor added.
