Army troopers discover arms cache in Maguindanao

Troops of the First Mechanized Infantry Battalion (1st MIB) discovered an arms cache during a clearing operation in Barangay Buayan, Datu Piang, Maguindanao on Thursday,February 7.

The recovered firearms that were placed inside a vacant comfort room at the back of the barangay hall were an M653 carbine, an M653 carbine COLT AR-15, an M203 40MM GL, a caliber-.45 pistol, a caliber-.38 pistol and assorted pieces of magazine and ammunition.

Prior to the discovery of the weapons and ammunition at about 7:30 a.m., concerned residents reported to the military regarding the presence of the armed group believed to be members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

This prompted security forces to conduct immediate clearing operation.

“The timely and accurate information provided by the concern civilian led to the recovery of said valuable war materials,” Army 6th Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Cirilito E. Sobejana said.

“We will sustain our commitment to ensure the safety and security of the people in Central Mindanao against the BIFF who sow terror and create fear in the community,” he added.

Sobejana also commended the troops involved for the successful conduct of the operation.

The support of the community by providing significant information was also recognized.
