ILOILO CITY—A rescued endangered turtle was brought back to its natural habitat after being released in southern Iloilo province.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) said the released animal was Green Sea Turtle with a length of 69 cm and a width of 62 cm.
Listed as one of the seven endangered turtle species in the country, the Green Sea Turtle was rescued by DENR’s Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) last year.
When the turtle became strong enough, CENRO tried to release it. But waves kept pushing the turtle back to shore.
The animal was turned over to the Wildlife Traffic Monitoring Unit Staff under CENRO in Guimbal town.
DENR is strengthening awareness of the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001.
