With the recent killing of Barangay Bagong Silangan chairwoman and congressional candidate Crisell Beltran, an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is not discounting the possibility of Quezon City being considered as an “area of concern” in the May 13 midterm polls.
“For sure, Quezon City will be an area of concern since a political violence occurred. That is for sure,” Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said.
As to the possibility of Quezon City being placed under Comelec control, Jimenez said this is unlikely since the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is not recommending this.
He added that Quezon City has a long way to go before it reaches the level of needing to be placed under Comelec control.
Beltran was killed in an ambush last January 30 in Quezon City by motorcycle-riding gunmen.
