Huawei signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Southeaster Philippines to become the first State University in the Philippines to be accredited as Huawei ICT Academy under the HAINA Program.

HAINA or Huawei Authorized Information Network Academy is a non-profit partnership that authorizes universities and colleges to deliver HUAWEI Certification Courses to students. The students who graduate from the HAINA Program are encouraged to attain the HUAWEI Certification in support of a subsequent career in the ICT industry. All Certification Courses are generic and the students can enhance their skills through lectures and hands-on practice.

Present during the signing USeP President, Dr. Lourdes C. Generalao and Huawei Vice President and COO Guo Zhi Daniel and key officers and staff of USeP and Huawei. The MOA is a three-year partnership, which involves building a Huawei ICT Lab in USEP Obrero Campus where students can have hands-on training with Huawei’s State of the Art Routing and Switching Equipment and servers. Professors will undergo the mandatory “train the Trainers” program to enhance their capability and skills to share the Huawei course curriculum, syllabus and certification vouchers for the students who will pass the program. The Certification is valid for two years and recognized in all 170 offices of Huawei globally as well as numerous Huawei partners worldwide.

Dr. Generalao said that by partnering with Huawei, USeP Institute of Computing students are assured of quality training and exposure which will support the university’s efforts to excel in information and technology, support in sustainability and build partnerships with the industry and the community.

“We chose USeP as a partner because of the University’s excellent track record and their consistent performance in National ICT competitions such as the Philippine Start-UP Challenge by DICT and PSIA. Huawei also hopes to help deserving ICT students from Davao City and nearby areas in Mindanao and provide practical and hands-on training and better job opportunities through HUAWEI Certification. Through the program, Huawei hopes to contribute to support local ICT education, share knowledge, create opportunities and build a better ICT talent eco-system. This is also our way of giving back to the Philippines,” said Guo Zhi Daniel.
