Boy, tanod dead in separate drowning incidents

CERVANTES, Ilocos Sur – Police opera­tives are investigating a drowning incident in­volving a four-year-old boy at the Ben Car Hot Spring and Dipping pool in Barangay Comillas Norte, Cervantes town on Sunday.

Police said the victim was a resident of Mankayan, Benguet.

The victim was reportedly taking a bath with other children in the pool when the drown­ing incident happened.

The victim was immediately rescued and was rushed to the Bessang Pass Memorial Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, in Marcos, Ilocos Norte, a barangay tanod, who was reportedly drunk, drowned and died after he dove into the shal­low portion of Madongan Dam in Barangay Cacafean last Sunday.

Sr. Insp. Johnveil Maramag, chief of police of Marcos town, identified the victim as Clem­encio Puzon, 59, village tanod and a resident of Barangay Escoda, Marcos, Ilocos Norte.

Investigation disclosed that the incident happened at about 3 p.m., when the victim was seen by witnesses as diving into a shal­low portion of the dam. But after he failed to surface, his companions got worried and looked for him.

They found him unconscious and was rushed to the Dingras District Hospital, but was declared dead on-arrival.
