In a statement, Malacañang said that Duterte visited Amansec's wake at the St. Peter Chapel on Thursday.
"During his visit, President Duterte personally expressed his condolences to the widow and children of Amansec," the Palace said in a statement.
The family of the late commissioner, in return, expressed their appreciation to the President and lauded him for his efforts to eradicate corruption in the country.
According to Amansec's family, the late commissioner died at the age of 72 due to cardiac arrest secondary to sepsis.
Amansec was appointed as SSS Commissioner in October 2016. His main functions included adopting, amending, and rescinding, subject to the approval of the Philippine
President, such rules and regulations as may be necessary to carry out the provisions and purposes of the Social Security Act; as well as approving, conforming, passing upon or reviewing any and all actions of the SSS Management.
Prior to his appointment to the SSS, Amansec served as Labor Arbiter at the National Labor Relations Commission – National Capital Region (NLRC-NCR).
He graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree at the San Beda College of Manila in 1972.
After visiting the funeral of the late SSS Commissioner, Malacañang said Duterte then proceeded to the next chapel to visit the wake of Qatar Labor Attaché Henry Parel.
According to the Palace statement, Duterte expressed his deepest condolences to Parel's family and talked to some of the guests who were present at the venue.
Parel passed away on January 3, at the age of 70 due to coronary heart disease.
