Gov. Reyes of Marinduque dies

Former congresswoman and incumbent Gov. Carmencita Ongsiako-Reyes of Marinduque died Monday at age 87, her relatives revealed.

Popularly known in Marinduque as Nanay Carmencita, the late governor served various elective posts, including that of a delegate to the 1971 Constitutiona Constitutional Convention.

She was serving her third and final term as governor of Marinduque when she died due to abdominal aneurism.

She served three full terms as congresswoman of Marinduque from 1987 to 1998. After this, Reyes was elected governor from 2007 to 2010.

The late governor was the wife of the late former Immigration Commissioner Edmundo Reyes Sr.

Two of her children, Regina Reyes Mandanas and Edmund were also elected members of the House of Representatives in the same province. Regina is the wife of incumbent Batanga Gov. Hermilando Mandanas.

She is also survived by will be greatly missed by her children and in-laws Violet, Bernadette and Garnik Azarnia, Marichu and Louie Vega, Gina and Dodo Mandanas, and Edmund and Camille Sison, her grandchildren, Armen, Simon, Billie, Mocky and Michelle Manalastas, Enzo, Gian, Paolo, Edmundito, Marianna Carmen, Sandro, Mandy, and her great grandchildren Luis Ernesto Edmundo, Henri and Carmen Astrid.

Her remains will lie in state at the Heritage Park, Taguig City until the celebration of the January 9 evening mass.

After the mass, she will be brought to her beloved province on Thursday, January 10.

She will be laid to rest on Friday, January 11 after the celebration of a Funeral Mass at 9 am at the Sanctuario de San Antonio Church, Forbes Park, Makati City.
